Charles Blatchford, instructed by Mr Asad Khan of Hussain Solicitors, recently secured a Not Guilty verdict for a client prosecuted for an offence under the Juries Act- juror carrying out research.

The prosecution arose from allegations that the client, while serving as a juror at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, improperly researched the case after CCTV captured the client conversing with family members of the accused outside the court premises on two consecutive days.

Following Charles’s cross-examination exposing critical weaknesses in the prosecution’s evidence and anticipating a defence application of no case to answer, the CPS conducted a high-level review.

Consequently, before the defence concluded its case, the prosecution opted to withdraw the allegation and requested the trial be halted leading to the client’s acquittal.
