Our team of specialist, highly regarded, health and safety barristers provide advice and representation for both the prosecutinon and the defence across England and Wales in the Magistrates Court, Tribunals, Crown Court, and Appellate Courts. We have specialist barristers at all levels with several barristers recommended in Chambers and Partners and Legal 500. 

We aim to deliver the highest standards of advice and advocacy combined with a straightforward, client-focussed approach that inspires confidence and loyalty.

Our barristers regularly act for local authorities, regulators (including the Health and Safety Executive, CQC, MAIB), statutory undertakers, interested parties, companies and individuals. Members have been appointed to the Attorney General’s List of Specialist Regulatory Advocates enabling St Philips Chambers to offer representation at all levels. The team benefits from excellent barristers also working across our Band 1 Crime team and Personal Injury teams. 

St Philips Chambers is one of a small number of chambers which can provide continuity of counsel across a health and safety prosecution, an inquest, and a personal injury claim. 

Our health and safety work crosses over with our personal injury, inquests, product liability, industrial disease, and property damage work and includes topics such as: 

• Corporate manslaughter; 
• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974; 
• Health and Safety Regulations; 
• Merchant Shipping Act 1995; 
• Merchant Shipping Regulations; 
• The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. 

Our health and safety work is supported by our excellent Regulatory clerking team. Some of our barristers take on appropriate cases on a direct access basis. Some cases may be eligible to be funded by insurance or legal aid.
