Zaheer Afzal represented ABG, one of 23 defendants charged as part of Operation Kingsman.

Operation Kingsman was an investigation by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit into a year-long conspiracy to supply multiple kilos of cocaine across the East and West Midlands.

Zaheer’s preparation for trial involved detailed analysis of thousands of pages of statements and exhibits, including scientific and forensic DNA and fingerprint evidence, as well as telephone material relating to cell-site and call data records.

The prosecution relied on extensive evidence at trial including: police surveillance; ANPR data over a substantial period; complex cell site, messaging and telephone analysis material; multiple arrests and interviews under caution; documentary material recovered from searches of residential and business premises; and seizures of substantial quantities of cocaine.

Following a six-week trial at the Crown Court sitting at Leicester Crown Court, the jury returned a verdict of Not Guilty in relation to ABG.

Zaheer’s client was the only defendant acquitted after trial.

Zaheer was instructed by Black & Co Solicitors.
