Tom Walkling KC and Ben Close successfully prosecuted Aimee Betro, an American woman who carried out a failed assassination in Birmingham. In 2019, Betro flew to the UK, disguising herself in a niqab to approach the intended victim at point-blank range. Her firearm jammed, allowing the target to escape unharmed.

The prosecution proved that Betro had been recruited by Mohammed Nazir and Mohammed Aslam as part of an ongoing feud. Betro was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court of conspiracy to murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and importing ammunition. She was apprehended in Armenia after nearly five years on the run and extradited to the UK to face trial.

Sentencing is due on 21st August.
