On Monday 9th March 2026, Glyn Samuel will be sworn-in as the new Deputy Chancellor of the Diocese of Birmingham, replacing HHJ John Edwards.

A deputy chancellor is one of two judges in the Diocese dealing with Ecclesiastical and canon law, mainly relating to changes to Church buildings, preservation or sale of church valuables, and as regards burials, memorials and exhumations. The judicial oaths and oath of allegiance will be administered by the Diocesan Registrar, Robert Sprake, in the presence of the Rt Revd Michael Volland, Bishop of Birmingham.

Glyn is also Chancellor and Vicar-General of the Diocese of Coventry, and Deputy Chancellor of Leeds.

Congratulations from all in Chambers to Glyn on his appointment.
