We are pleased to announce that Richard Atkins KC has been appointed Head of Chambers. Having led St Philips from 2020 to 2023, it is the first time in our history that a Head of Chambers has taken on the role for a second time.

Joe Wilson, CEO and Director of Clerking, said:

For our members to elect Richard for a second term tells you the regard in which he is held. I am very much looking forward to working closely with him again as we continue to further strengthen the service we provide to clients and reinforce St Philips’ position as one of the very best chambers in the country to practise from and work within.

Richard was called to the Bar in 1989 and took Silk in 2011. He was Chair of the Bar of England & Wales in 2019 and Leader of the Midland Circuit from 2014 to 2017. He sits as a Crown Court Recorder, a fee-paid (part-time) Judge of the Mental Health Tribunal and is a Master of the Bench of Gray’s Inn.
