Introduction
Kyran joined St Philips Chambers in October 2025 upon successful completion of pupillage, specialising in Employment, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence. He was supervised by Colin Baran, Andrew Evans and Sophie Garner.

Recent cases
- Successfully represented the Claimant in a Fast Track personal injury claim against a local authority which had negligently repaired a bedroom ceiling, securing general damages of £6,000
- Successfully represented the Defendant in a Fast Track hire claim, securing the dismissal of bilateral hire charges of circa £10,000
- Securing a favourable outcome for a Defendant police force in a Fast Track fundamental dishonesty hearing, advising to settle on a Part 36 offer
- Acting as sole counsel for the Claimant in a Multi-Track ‘slip and trip’ claim against two local authority Defendants
- Representing the Claimant in a Judicial Mediation and 7-day final hearing in a claim for whistleblowing dismissal, direct and indirect sex discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- Represented the Claimant in an unfair dismissal claim, raising difficult issues of contributory fault and Polkey deduction
- Advised a Respondent academy trust on an unfair constructive dismissal claim, concerning psychiatry injury and the Hatton v Sutherland duty
Before the Bar
Kyran worked as Senior Legal Adviser and Parliamentary Officer at Protect, the whistleblowing charity. He advised workers across multiple sectors on the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998. He advised and trained businesses leaders on whistleblowing best practice and compliance. As a result, Kyran is well-placed to advise and represent clients in whistleblowing and other complex employment matters.
In 2023, he was awarded the Nicolas Bratza scholarship by Lincoln’s Inn to be a Visiting Scholar at the European Court of Human Rights. He worked for President Síofra O’Leary and Judge Tim Eicke. He has also worked as a HR Manager, in the Civil Service, and in the education sector. He volunteered for Liberty, Appeal and The Justice Gap, where he advised on actions against public authorities, Court of Protection cases, and appeals.
In his spare time, Kyran enjoys playing piano, singing and acting. He is an avid theatre-goer, self-confessed film-buff and keen home cook.
Employment
Kyran advises and represents Claimants and Defendants across the full spectrum of employment law and discrimination law. He has extensive experience of whistleblowing claims, and a special interest in claims raising human rights issues, particularly freedom of expression, privacy and religious liberties (see Kyran’s article on Higgs v Farmor’s School here).
Recent cases
- Representing the Claimant at a preliminary hearing, Judicial Mediation and 7-day final hearing in a claim for whistleblowing dismissal, direct and indirect sex discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Kyran’s List of Issues were described as “brilliant” by the Judge at the preliminary hearing.
- Represented the Claimant at a preliminary hearing in a claim valued at over £100,000 against two Respondents for automatic unfair TUPE dismissal, ordinary constructive dismissal, wrongful dismissal, holiday pay, redundancy pay and unlawful deduction from wages
- Being led as Junior Counsel for the Respondent in a claim by a serial litigant against whom a Civil Restraint Order was granted
- Advised a Claimant as to the Vento band allocation of her whistleblowing claim, following a bitter two-year campaign of victimisation which resulted in psychiatric injury and family breakdown
- Advised a Respondent Academy Trust on an unfair constructive dismissal claim, concerning psychiatric injury and the Hatton v Sutherland duty
- Drafted Grounds of Claim in a claim for sexual harassment and victimisation on behalf of a 17 year-old Claimant, with concurrent criminal proceedings against the perpetrator
- Drafted Grounds of Resistance and application for strike-out in an unfair dismissal claim, raising issues of employee status and qualifying service
- Represented the Claimant in an unfair dismissal claim, raising difficult issues of contributory fault and Polkey deduction
Examples of work undertaken during pupillage include:
- Drafted a successful application for an anonymity order under Rule 49 for a non-party, non-witness in a claim against an NHS respondent (Read Kyran’s article on anonymity orders here)
- Advised a Claimant in a cross-border claim for Equal Pay, whistleblowing and sex discrimination against 7 named Respondents
- Drafted a skeleton argument for an interim relief application against an NHS respondent
Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence
Kyran represents Claimants and Defendants in all personal injury and clinical negligence matters across the Small Claims Track, Fast Track and Multi-Track.
He regularly accepts instructions in liability/quantum hearings, the OIC Portal, the RTA Protocol, the EL/PL Protocol, application hearings, Stage 3 hearings, disposal hearings, and credit hire.

- Securing a favourable outcome for a Defendant police force in a Fast Track fundamental dishonesty hearing, advising to settle on a Part 36 offer
- Acting as sole counsel for the Claimant in a Multi-Track ‘slip and trip’ claim against two local authority Defendants. Kyran secured allocation to the multi-track owing to the number of witnesses and time estimates. He secured a budget at CCMC worth five times the pleaded value of the claim.
- Drafted Particulars of Claim in an EL/PL claim against a multinational car manufacturer valued at circa £20,000, concerning The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
- Drafted Particulars of Claim in an EL/PL ‘slip and trip’ claim against a multinational travel company, and is representing the Claimant at final hearing on the Fast Track
- Successfully secured permission for a second expert to challenge a diminution in value claim on the Small Claims Track
Examples of work undertaken during pupillage include:
- Drafted a Schedule of Loss in a complex fatal clinical negligence claim, including damages for bereavement, loss of consortium, loss of income and services dependency
- Drafted Particulars of Claim in a package holiday claim under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangement Regulations 2018
- Drafted an Advice on quantum for an 11 year-old Claimant who damaged her front two teeth at an accident on school premises, including future losses under the Ogden Tables
