William Horwood and Lauren Starmer, of our Family team, have written for Family Law on the Court of Appeal’s decision in Re J, M, P (Loss of Parental Responsibility) [2026] EWCA Civ 344. The article explores the effect of the Court of Appeal’s decision and discusses some potentially difficult consequences of the decision.

William and Lauren co-authored the article together with Shiva Ancliffe KC and Daniel Taylor of Coram Chambers. All four authors appeared in the Court of Appeal in Re M.

The article’s title and citation is The legal meaning of ‘father’, the acquisition of PR: an analysis and discussion of Re J, Re M, Re P [2026] Fam Law 1058.
