We recognise that clients demand specialist knowledge from barristers who are technically astute, excellent in court and aware of wider commercial issues and personable.
St Philips Family Barristers are delighted to welcome John Vater QC as a Door Tenant at St Philips Chambers.
John was called to the Bar in 1995 and took Silk in 2012 and has practised from Harcourt Chambers from pupillage.
With a national reputation for his work in both Public and Private Law John is regarded as one of the leading family Silks in the country. He is exceptionally well known for his work in relation to enclosed head injuries, factitious or induced illness and serious sexual abuse of children.
Commentators note that he is renowned for his “meticulous preparation” and he is “very good at thinking on his feet” as well as being “one of the most gifted cross-examiners you will see in a courtroom”.
John is co-author of 2 practitioner text-books – “Contact: The New Deal” and “The Public Law Outline: a Case Management Compendium”. He is also a member of Gray’s Inn, the midland Circuit, the Family Law Bar Association and the Association of Lawyers for Children.
Head of Group, Carolyn Jones, commented: “The addition of John Vater QC to our Family Team further enhances the reputation of the group and strengthens the services we are able to provide our clients. John has led a number of our members and he is widely accepted as the go-to silk for the most serious of matters in relation to children work.”
John added: “Over the years as a member of Harcourt Chambers I have worked very closely with many members of St Philips, from distinguished former members like the late David Hershman QC, Sir Andrew McFarlane and Sir Alistair MacDonald, to the current very talented team. It’s a real privilege to be joining that team as a Door Tenant and I hope in some way to add to its distinction.”
For further information about John, including his availability, please contact Senior Family Clerk, Mark Mansell.
