South West Water has been fined a record £1.8m for drinking water offences, after the cryptosporidium outbreak that left hundreds of people in Brixham unwell last year. The water company, who pleaded guilty to supplying water unfit for human consumption, received the largest fine of its kind.

Joseph Millington, instructed by the Drinking Water Inspectorate, appeared for the prosecution.
