Acting through the Free Representation Unit, Pupil Barrister Shaniqua McKenzie represented the Claimant in a high-value disability discrimination and victimisation claim under the Equality Act 2010, concluding in one of the charity’s highest recent Employment Tribunal settlements.

The pleadings extended to hundreds of pages and required procedural recalibration. Following this, an application was made to amend the claim by consolidating the sustainable causes of action, ensuring the case was presented with clarity.

A List of Issues was subsequently drafted which was commended by the Employment Judge.

The restructure and successful amendment application strengthened the Claimant’s settlement leverage, resulting in a substantial negotiated resolution.

The Claimant later reflected:

“She presented my case with calm authority and confidence… Her advocacy was clear, persuasive and strategically sharp.”

“She advocated with unwavering determination during what has been the most difficult battle of my life.”

“During a period when I was in acute crisis, her calm, structured and strategic approach provided reassurance and stability that I cannot adequately describe.”

Shaniqua is undertaking a specialist Employment, Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence pupillage and will be accepting instructions from 1st April 2026.
