Shaniqua McKenzie – Pupil

Introduction

Shaniqua McKenzie is undertaking a specialist pupillage with the Personal Injury and Employment Groups, under the supervision of Andrew Evans and Anthony Johnston. From April 2026, she will be accepting instructions in both Claimant and Defendant/Respondent matters across these areas.

Before coming to the Bar, Shaniqua worked as a Litigation Consultant and volunteered with the Free Representation Unit, where she continues to represent Claimants in employment tribunals. She managed approximately 55 Employment Tribunal cases across England and Wales, undertaking full case management including drafting pleadings, witness statements, and submissions, advising on merits and quantum, and providing advocacy at both preliminary and final hearings of up to five days. Shaniqua conducted a five-day final hearing for the Respondent, achieving the dismissal of race and religion discrimination and unfair dismissal claims. Many of her cases concluded successfully through judicial mediation or settlement, with claims valued up to £145,000.

A scholar of Gray’s Inn, Shaniqua was awarded the David Karmel Scholarship as one of the top three highest performing GDL scholars, and the Lord Bingham of Cornhill Scholarship for outstanding potential to succeed at the Bar. She is passionate about equality and diversity within the profession and enjoys baking in her spare time.
