R V JESSICA CRANE
Richard Atkins QC led Jennifer Josephs in the prosecution of Jessica Crane at Worcester Crown Court. Ms Crane had stabbed her mother to death with a 25cm bladed kitchen knife which she plunged into her back causing fatal injuries. After a 9-day trial, the jury rejected the alternative defences of lack of intent and manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, having heard extensive medical, psychological, and psychiatric evidence and convicted Ms Crane unanimously of murder. She was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 ½ years.
