Ben Douglas-Jones KC, leading James Marsland of 5 Paper Buildings, prosecuted Roger Bryant, the procurement officer for the National Trust in North Devon and Arlington Estate, and his two sons, who laundered the proceeds of his crime through bank accounts set up in the name of fictitious building contractor organisations.

Roger Bryant was convicted on 25 counts reflecting over a million pounds worth of fraud and a count of perverting the course of justice.  He was sentenced to 6 ½ years’ imprisonment.  James Bryant, his elder son, was convicted of laundering the bulk of the million pounds and received a 4 years sentence.  Scott Bryant, his younger son, was given a suspended sentence for laundering £64,000.
