Shaniqua McKenzie is a pupil barrister specialising in employment and personal injury law.
Before coming to the Bar, Shaniqua worked as a Litigation Consultant representing Respondents in Employment Tribunal proceedings. She also volunteered with the Free Representation Unit (FRU), representing Claimants in Employment Tribunal matters.
Shaniqua has managed more than 50 Employment Tribunal cases across England and Wales including with values up to £220K. Her experience includes drafting pleadings and witness statements and providing advocacy at preliminary hearings and multi-day discrimination hearings. She appeared for a Respondent in a five-day final hearing involving allegations of race and religious belief discrimination, unfair dismissal and unlawful deduction from wages, in which all claims were dismissed.
Many matters she has worked on have concluded successfully through judicial mediation or negotiated settlement.
During her first six, Shaniqua continued to represent Claimants pro bono through FRU and secured one of the charity’s largest settlement awards in a complex disability discrimination claim. The settlement included compensation for psychiatric injury arising from discrimination, reflecting her developing practice at the intersection of employment and personal injury law.
Client feedback includes:
“She presented my case with calm authority and confidence. Her advocacy was clear, persuasive and strategically sharp.”
Shaniqua is available for instructions in employment and personal injury matters for Claimants and Defendants/Respondents.
