Joseph Millington

Call: 2009

Introduction

Joseph completed a predominantly civil and chancery pupillage at St Philips Chambers in 2011. Since then, he has developed a growing reputation in the fields of regulatory crime, Government litigation and civil fraud.

In November 2015, Joseph was appointed to the Attorney General’s Regional Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. He hopes to continue to develop his experience in VAT and Customs and Excise matters. This has already included frequent appearances in both the Magistrates’ Court and the Tax Tribunal, as well as being instructed by HMRC as led junior in a Fleming appeal in both the First-Tier and Upper Tribunals, and two large MTIC appeals.

Joseph is regularly instructed by a number of local authorities to prosecute a wide variety of offences including fraud, trading standards and consumer protection, food safety, and protection from eviction. He also provides representation and advice relating to licensing matters, and has particular expertise in the field of the licensing of houses in multiple occupation. Joseph is often involved at the pre-charge stage, advising on potential offences and providing all necessary assistance thereafter.

Building upon his previous experience as a paralegal in the motor fraud department of an industry leading insurance litigation firm, Joseph is frequently instructed to represent the interests of defendant insurance companies in claims involving allegations of fraud.

Joseph’s particular interest in, and experience of, fraud across all of his practice areas resulted in an invitation to speak at the Midlands Fraud Forum in 2015. He is happy to accept instructions in matters involving allegations of fraud in any context.

Joseph graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2005 with a degree in law. He obtained a Master of Philosophy in Playwriting Studies at the University of Birmingham before completing the BVC at the City Law School, London. He was awarded an Inner Temple Exhibition for his BVC year.
