Former President of the International Criminal Court Bar Association, Peter Haynes KC has been assigned to represent Joseph Kony, the Commander-in-Chief of the Lord’s Resistance Army.

Kony, a Ugandan militant and warlord, was the first person to be indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) back in 2002 and has remained their No.1 target criminal. Described for some time as “the most wanted man in the world”, Kony’s army is reportedly responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 and the abduction of at least 60,000 children who were recruited/enlisted as child soldiers.

The court has now taken the decision to proceed against him in his absence.

Peter is one of the foremost practitioners in International Criminal and Humanitarian Law; one of very few practitioners to have led cases before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Court and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
