After an exceptional 44-year career at the Bar, John Randall KC has retired, marking the conclusion of a truly remarkable legal career.

Widely regarded as one of the leading silks in his field, John built a formidable national reputation while remaining steadfastly committed to practising from Birmingham. His intellect, advocacy skills, and meticulous approach to complex legal matters earned him the respect of clients, peers, and the judiciary alike. Throughout his career, he acted in some of the most high-profile and intricate cases, shaping legal principles and influencing the development of the law in key areas.

Beyond his achievements in practice, John was instrumental in shaping the future of St Philips Chambers. He played a crucial role in the establishment of chambers in its current form, leading the acquisition of and relocation to our premises at 55 Temple Row. His vision and leadership during this period laid the foundations for St Philips to thrive as a leading national set. As Head of Chambers following the move, John provided steady guidance and strategic direction, ensuring the continued growth and success of the set. Even after stepping down from that role, he remained a valued source of wisdom and support for those managing chambers, always generous with his time and advice.

John’s influence extends far beyond his casework and chambers. He has been a mentor and inspiration to many barristers, offering encouragement and guidance to those following in his footsteps. His professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence have set a benchmark for generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to John for his immense contributions to the profession and our Chambers. His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy endures in the foundations he helped build and the many practitioners he has inspired. We wish him a long, fulfilling, and well-earned retirement alongside his wife, Ling.
