Ed Beever successfully defended Nottinghamshire County Council against a teacher’s claim of unfair dismissal and religious discrimination.
A transgender pupil had joined the Council run School. The teacher declined to adhere to the School’s requests, citing her conscience and Christian beliefs. After initially being suspended, the teacher returned to the school but was then subsequently sacked for repeatedly accessing the child’s safeguarding report on the School’s CPOMS system.
The employment tribunal dismissed all claims of unfair dismissal and religious discrimination brought by the teacher.
The Tribunal also heard argument and decided that the pupil should have anonymity so as to respect their safety and privacy.
