Chambers has a proud tradition of members undertaking Pro Bono work and, as such, we are proud to be the first set in the Midlands, and one of the first in the UK, to sign up to Advocate’s Chambers Pro Bono Framework.

There has always been a need for barristers to provide their services to support individuals in need of legal assistance who are unable to fund it themselves or access legal aid. This situation has been brought into sharp focus of late given by the well-reported cost of living crisis. There may never have been a greater need for pro bono assistance.

By signing up to the framework:

  • We have appointed Chambers Director, Joe Wilson, as our Pro Bono Champion
  • We have committed to undertake pro bono and volunteering work with an aspiration for 10% of members to complete some form of pro bono work in 2023
  • We will organise at least one pro bono seminar to communicate and affirm Chambers’ pro bono ethos
  • We will report on pro bono work done

Speaking on signing up to the framework, Joe Wilson said:

“Pro bono work has always been important to us as we continue to be a positive force in our local community and beyond. The structure and goals put in place by this framework will help us focus our minds and ensure that we achieve our pro bono and volunteering goals, which are now interwoven into our business planning.”
