The company appeared before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on 3 May 2023, entered a Guilty plea to a single charge of causing an illegal water discharge and was sentenced.
Despite extensive management systems, it had failed to prevent emission of silty water flowing from its development site at Sebastopol – to the north of Newport, South Wales – into a tributary of the River Lwyd.
The court was persuaded that the offence had not been committed for financial gain, there had been no actual environmental harm caused and steps had been taken to remedy the issue.
