Ben Close and Kiran Pourawal led by William Boyce KC, with Tom Phillips of QEB Hillis Whiteman as disclosure junior, prosecute the first case concerning disguised political donations, pursuant to the Political Parties, Election and Referendums Act 2000.

Mr Platt was the fourth defendant to be sentenced, with the BBC being given permission to record and broadcast the sentencing remarks. The proceedings are being heard before Mrs Justice Eady, at Warwick Crown Court.

The case encompassed donations to the political campaign of David Mackintosh, the former Conservative MP for Northampton South. The donations were made on behalf of Howard Grossman, who was involved with a significant redevelopment project in Northampton. There is a further defendant to be sentenced in January.
