Community Outreach

As a chambers, and as individuals, we take our responsibilities and standing seriously, and aim to use our skills and experience to help those less fortunate, or those aspiring to make a career at the Bar.

Our members of chambers have spent time in the past year variously supporting the following causes and initiatives:

  • Pro bono work in numerous free legal advice clinics and ad hoc pro bono instructions across the Circuit amounting to hundreds of hours (6 members of chambers are listed on the Pro Bono Recognition for having undertaken at least 25 hours in 2024, and chambers is a Silver Circle Patron of Advocate, the free legal advice charity).
  • Members of chambers have spearheaded the inaugural Birmingham Chancery Litigants in Person Scheme (B-CLIPS), which began its operation in 2024, and the Midlands Commercial and Chancery Bar Association’s Black Mini-Pupillage Scheme.
  • Mentoring for the Tyro Lawyer (in partnership with Birmingham Black Lawyers), 10000 Black Interns, The Student Lawyer, Bringing [Dis]Ability to the Bar, and the Catalyst Collective (black schoolgirls aged 14-16), together with other informal mentoring of students .
  • Offering training, mentorship and work placements for students on the Midlands Circuit, together with interview practice and CV reviews for Inner Temple Students.
  • Careers talks and mentoring schemes at the University of Law, BPP, Nottingham University, Warwick University, Northeastern London University and numerous schools in the area, together with the PRIME social mobility programme operated for disadvantaged sixth-formers in the West Midlands, and the Schools Consent Project which aims to reduce the risk of sexual harm in the young.
  • Advocacy training and judging at the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University and Nottingham University, and multiple occasions of training sixth-form teams competing in the National Mock Trial Competition run by Young Citizens.
  • Pathway to the Bar placement schemes through the Inner Temple, and student mentoring through Gray’s Inn and Middle Temple.
