St Philips is proud to announce that Glyn Samuel has been appointed Deputy Chancellor for West Yorkshire and The Dales.

The press release reads:

The Bishop of Leeds is pleased to announce that the Chancellor of the Diocese, the Worshipful Mark Hill QC, has appointed Glyn Samuel to be Deputy Chancellor of West Yorkshire and the Dales.

A Yorkshire man by birth, Glyn was called to the Bar in 1991 and practises from St Philips Chambers in Birmingham, undertaking a wide variety of criminal, regulatory and licensing work. He has been Deputy Chancellor of Coventry Diocese since 2010. Glyn succeeds His Honour John Bullimore who had been interim Deputy Chancellor and will take his oaths of office at the conclusion of the Legal Service at Bradford cathedral on Sunday 7 February.

The role of Deputy Chancellor is to stand in for the Chancellor in determining faculty petitions where the Chancellor for whatever reason is unable to act.

Chancellor Mark Hill QC said: “I am delighted to have a young and energetic colleague join me as Deputy Chancellor of West Yorkshire and the Dales. Glyn’s arrival coincides with the issuing of new General Directions and Churchyard Regulations which bring uniformity of practice across the whole of the new diocese. The workload is considerable and I am pleased that someone with Glyn’s legal experience and pastoral gifts will share with me in the challenging work of the newest consistory court in the Church of England.’
