Anthony Burgess

Introduction

Anthony Burgess is Acting Head of Family Clerking at St Philips Chambers, where he provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a large and diverse family law practice. With over 15 years’ specialist experience in family law practice management, Anthony supports a team of around 45 barristers and leads the Family clerking function.

Known for his calm, transparent and commercially focused approach, Anthony works closely with members to support sustainable practice development across care, private law, financial remedy and ADR work. He is responsible for work allocation, client relationship management and the long-term strategic direction of the Family team, ensuring that both members and professional clients receive a consistent and high-quality service.

Anthony maintains strong relationships with solicitors, local authorities and professional clients across the region and beyond, contributing to Chambers’ reputation for professionalism and responsiveness. He was the first clerk from anywhere to be appointed to the Resolution Committee, reflecting his commitment to engagement with the wider family law community and the development of best practice within the profession.

Having progressed through a number of senior clerking roles, Anthony brings a detailed understanding of the modern family law market together with a collaborative leadership style that balances commercial awareness with fairness, transparency and professional development. He works closely with barristers at all stages of practice, supporting career progression, wellbeing and long-term growth within Chambers.
