Harman Kooner – Pupil

Introduction

Harman is undertaking his pupillage under the supervision of Jonathan Barker. Prior to commencing Pupillage, he worked within the in-house legal team of an insurer assisting in the defence of civil claims.

Previously, Harman worked as a Paralegal at a law firm specialising in criminal defence. During this time, Harman assisted in the litigation of serious criminal matters in the Crown Court and gained advocacy experience by representing clients at in-chambers bail applications. During his LLM, Harman’s dissertation examined defendant anonymity in rape cases and analysed the role of open justice.

Harman is also committed to pro bono work and volunteers with the Free Representation Unit where he assists claimants in their Employment Tribunal claims.

Outside of work, Harman follows a calisthenics routine, enjoys cooking, and likes spending time outdoors. In the year prior to his pupillage, Harman undertook a period of travelling, visiting countries such as Japan, Thailand, South Africa and many more.

Harman will be accepting instruction in Criminal and Regulatory law from 1 April 2026.
