Clare Rennie

Introduction

Clare is a persuasive advocate who is regularly instructed to defend and prosecute Crown Court trials exceeding her year of call. She has an approachable manner with clients and builds rapport easily.

She is experienced in dealing with vulnerable witnesses as well as representing vulnerable clients. She welcomes instructions in all areas and is a Grade 2 Prosecutor. Due to her previous experience as a secondary school teacher, she has a particular interest in youth work.

In her regulatory practice, Clare receives instructions to defend and prosecute in a variety of areas. She has represented authorities in Article 2 inquests, regularly advises local councils and has represented clients in Crown Court trials.

Clare’s recent caseload includes:

  • R v AB (2025) – Instructed to represent D present during the shockwave 2024 summer riots
  • R v TC (2025) – Successfully prosecuted at trial D importing 22kg of Cannabis via Birmingham Airport
  • R v JS (2025) – Client acquitted of strangulation at football match where 5 Prosecution witnesses attended trial
  • R v JG (2024) – Successfully prosecuted at trial a man charged with s18 GBH where IP provided no witness statement
  • R v IM (2024) – Client acquitted of arson with intent to endanger life
  • R v GM (2024) – Junior Prosecution Counsel in s18 GBH where D was accused of shaking a baby
  • R v LB (2023) – Represented a vulnerable youth accused of assault by penetration who was acquitted
