St Philips Chambers is deeply saddened to mark the passing of Sir Stephen Brown on 30 September 2025, shortly before his 101st birthday.

Sir Stephen practised for many years from 2 Fountain Court, Birmingham, which later merged with 7 Fountain Court to form what is now St Philips Chambers.

Sir Stephen’s distinguished career at the Bar and on the Bench reflected his commitment to justice and public service. His leadership, particularly as President of the Family Division from 1988 to 1999, left a lasting mark on the law and on those who appeared before him.

We extend our sincere condolences to Sir Stephen’s family and friends at this time.
