Yesterday, members of chambers and key staff involved in our recruitment processes undertook the Bar Council’s engaging and insightful Fair Recruitment and Selection training.  

Having previously taken on board the Bar Council’s guidance for recruitment processes, this session was squarely focussed on ensuring that we are continuing to apply the updated best practice across the whole of Chambers’ recruitment, be it for new tenants, pupils or staff; from initial application through to interview and offer, ensuring that we give every applicant a level playing field and the best opportunity to stand out, and that our selection criteria remain reliable, valid, objective and transparent.

Specifically relating to our pupillage process, earlier in the year we published the St Philips Chambers 2023 Pupillage Process Review. The report gives feedback on what worked well for the successful candidates and did not work as well for the unsuccessful candidates, and provides some useful information for any prospective pupils interested in applying to chambers in the future.
