Members of St Philips Chambers Personal Injury Practice Group practice in all aspects of Personal Injury litigation, predominantly but by no means exclusively in the West Midlands. The group includes a thriving Clinical Negligence sub-group. We deal with cases from heaviest of High Court and multi-track work (birth injuries, spinal injury, catastrophic injury) down to “Stage 3” and infant approval hearings. Types of work include RTC, EL, PL, Industrial Disease, and holiday claims. We cover credit hire work as well. Instructions come from both claimant and defendant firms.
Due to the high volume of work the thriving and expanding team are looking to recruit a 3rd Six Pupil, based in Birmingham, to commence in as soon as possible.
The successful applicant(s) must be able to demonstrate they have developed their professional skills during their initial period of pupillage. They will have strong analytical skills, sound drafting ability and excellent advocacy skills, both oral and written. They will be able to demonstrate a real commitment to personal injury work and they will have the potential to become tenants in Chambers. They will have an opportunity to progress rapidly into clinical negligence work if desired.
We regard this as a learning opportunity for you, and the third six months pupil will benefit from pro-active support and be allocated a member of chambers as a mentor (akin to a supervisor) and work alongside a more junior barrister who will fulfil a similar, but more informal, role. This third six months pupillage is unfunded and the successful candidate will be expected to generate their own income, and will have ample opportunity to do this. The Third Six pupillage will last for 6 months.
An offer of a Third Six pupillage would be with a realistic expectation of being offered a tenancy following a successful conclusion of this six month pupillage. Successful applicants can expect to be busy and in Court regularly.
Chambers is committed to providing our clients with high quality, specialist legal services through Barristers with the highest reputation for advocacy, knowledge and professional standards and we are looking for candidates who will uphold these core values. We would expect to take up references from earlier pupillages.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, but should be received by 1st July 2018 and be made by covering letter reference “3rd Six PI Application” sent to Juliette Print via email (email@example.com) containing:-
- two examples of written work
- names of two referees. We would usually expect one to be from a previous Pupil Supervisor. The other can be from a solicitor, another barrister, a law tutor, or
- anyone else who can comment on your abilities.
All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
If you would like an informal discussion with a member of the PI Group before making your application, please contact Juliette Print who will put you in touch.
