Third Six Pupillage – Employment Law Group

St Philips Chambers Employment Law Practice Group (“EPG”) is a team of 25+ Barristers practicing in all aspects of Employment Law throughout the United Kingdom. St Philips Chambers’ expertise spans discrimination, equal pay, unfair dismissal, TUPE and whistleblowing matters, and members regularly appear at the Employment Appeal Tribunal in disputes concerning these topics. Employer clients include NHS trusts, county councils and large private companies. Members are also well versed in the commercial side of employment law, acting for both employees and employers in restrictive covenants and director cases. A number of its members sit as employment judges.

Due to the high volume of work the thriving and expanding team are looking to recruit a 3rd Six Pupil, based in Leeds.

The successful applicant(s) must be able to demonstrate they have developed their professional skills during their initial period of pupillage. They will have strong analytical skills, sound drafting ability and excellent advocacy skills, both oral and written. They will be able to demonstrate a real commitment to our Team and they will have the potential to become tenants in Chambers.

The third six months pupil will benefit from pro-active support and be allocated a member of chambers as a mentor (akin to a supervisor) and work alongside a more junior barrister who will fulfil a similar, but more informal, role.  This third six months pupillage is unfunded and the successful candidate will be expected to generate their own income.  The Third Six pupillage will last for 6 months.

An offer of a Third Six pupillage would be with a realistic expectation of being offered a tenancy following a successful conclusion of this six month pupillage. Successful applicants can expect to be busy and in the Employment Tribunal regularly.
