Our Employment Barrister Group

Our Employment Group has established an expert reputation for employment law, offering an experienced and all-encompassing team of specialist employment barristers. Our barristers regularly advise and represent large private employers, public sector clients including NHS trusts and local authorities, as well as individual claimants.

Led by Edmund Beever, our employment group is noted for its strength in high-value discrimination, whistleblowing, restraint of trade, wrongful dismissal, breach of contract, discrimination and TUPE cases. We continue to be the preferred choice set for intricate employment matters. Our barristers are adept at navigating diverse issues on behalf of private and public sector respondents, as well as claimants.

Clients appreciate our barristers’ abilities to combine deep legal knowledge with practical, strategic advice:

“St Philips is an outstanding chambers. They have a huge breadth of skill, knowledge and experience. The clerks have a great ability to ensure appropriate counsel is available, even at short notice.”

“They are always my first choice.”

“A top choice on the Midland Circuit for complex employment law cases”

“Oliver Edwards and Janita Patel are amazing – they are on it and provide a seamless and 5-star service.”

The Group is Tier 1 ranked in the 2025 Legal 500 directory and Band 1 in Chambers & Partners UK Bar Guide 2025.

13 of our Group’s members: Rob Mundy KC, Petar Starcevic, Dr Mirza Ahmad, Paul Wilson, Edmund Beever, Sophie Garner, Anthony Johnston, Elizabeth Hodgetts, Bruce Frew, Alexander Rozycki, Patrick Keith, Julie Duane and Francis Mortin are ranked in the 2025 legal directories.

The Group is also an active participant in the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA), the Employment Law Bar Association, and the Law Society.

Our members are enthusiastic participants in pro bono employment law services for Advocate (formerly the Bar Pro Bono Unit) and helped to establish the ELA’s ELIPS (Employment Tribunal Litigant in Person Support Service) Scheme.
