Jonathan Barker Prosecutes Pharmacists for illegal Supply of Prescription Medicines

Jonathan Barker was instructed by the CPS Specialist Fraud Division (on behalf of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) to prosecute Pharmacists, Dean Dookhan and Narvinder Nandra. Using their pharmacies as cover, both men were involved in diverting hundreds of thousands of doses of Zolpidem, a prescribed controlled drug used to treat Insomnia, from pharmacies to their contact in the Carribean. Narvinder Nandra, whose basis of plea was comprehensively rejected following a 3-day trial of the issue before HHJ Laird QC, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment; Dean Dookhan was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment. This prosecution follows Jonathan’s successful prosecution of Jaspar Ojela, another pharmacist, who last year was sentenced to 28 months for supplying controlled drugs onto the black market:
